I’m Cheryl Lynn, a Canadian author and screenwriter with a love of history, family stories and the lives of ordinary people caught up in extraordinary times.

Much of my writing begins with a simple curiosity: What was it really like to live through history? 

Not only for the people whose names appear in history books, but for the families around kitchen tables, the soldiers far from home, the women holding families together and the people building lives in a changing country.

My historical series, The Magpie’s Tales, grew from that curiosity and from stories passed down through my own family. Origins follows a Canadian family building a life and finding its place in a young nation. The Horsemen follows the next generation as war and upheaval threaten to pull that family apart.

Here you’ll also find my screenwriting, poetry and prose, my Average Viewer reflections on film and television and a very personal collection of my father’s poetry from the Second World War.

Different forms, different periods, different stories, but they share a fascination with people: how we endure, what we believe, whom we love and what we leave behind.
